Dr Karina Dahl is Principal Geotechnical Engineering at Damwatch Engineering with 10 years of experience in dam engineering. Her main area of expertise is in the assessment of earth and rockfill embankment dams, estimating seismic-induced deformations, advanced laboratory testing, liquefaction and cyclic softening and seismic hazards.
She received her PhD in geotechnical and earthquake engineering from the University of California, Davis and is a registered civil engineer in California. Dr Dahl has performed comprehensive dam safety reviews and analyses of dams in New Zealand, Australia and California. Her dam experience includes being a water resources engineer in the design branch of California’s Division of Safety of Dams. Dr Dahl is a member of the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering and is their Wellington representative.
